As expected and often the case a billycart racer will start in a Soapbox which is how I started. My first experience in a billycart was at the age of about ten aboard a reasonably quick modified pedal car in the suburb of Norwood in Launceston, Tasmania. As I recall, I would compete against friends and/or neighbours in races down our driveway and along the footpath at speeds that provided lots of fun times. During these races I would think that I was "Peter Brock" having painted the famous 05 number on the back of the seat. In 1984, I began to get more serious about billycarting which resulted in a fun day being staged at Archerville Go Kart Raceway near Launceston. I faired pretty well by finishing second in the first few races before winning five in a row to eventually claim first place. It was an enjoyable day which I look back on with fond memories. The billycart got plenty of usage and won many friendly races before it was eventually retired for the purpose of being used as part of my second billycart which was built in the Winter of 1988.
