It is fantastic to see this billycart again with a newcomer in Billy Whelan behind the wheel. Originally at the reins of his elder brother Luke this billycart first raced at the Technopark where it usually found plenty of speed which I believe the design has a lot to do with it. Lets hope we see more of the same in years to come.

This billycart is the original of two built by teenagers who were attending Chance On Main throughout the past few years. Under the guidance and influence of Geoff Cumberland and other staff the construction took about six months with materials being sourced from Bunnings Warehouse and other locations. Its first official race was at Claremont College where it faired very well with all four competitors making the finals. Since then CHOM # 157 has been fitted with a roll bar to ensure to better safety for all those behind the wheel.

The first heat of the All Rounder Class gave everybody a chance to see this very fast and sleek billycart called "Flying High" in action. As shown in this photo, Alison Cox is tucked inside, awaiting the start of the heat. Peering into the cockpit offering his last minute advice is Phil McGrath. Alison went on to claim victory in this heat by a considerable margin.

It looks like these two men and their billycarts would of raced very close together during this heat. The photo has no information of any sort which is a shame because I cannot reveal who won it and its location. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Raptor

Raptor was built in 2001 and began with a very memorable occasion as a result of being involved in an accident where it flipped and rolled over several times. The freakish accident at the historic site of Port Arthur was caught on a video camera and sent to Australia's Funniest Home Video's where it won third prize gaining national exposure. Since then this billycart has had little action other than Baskerville where this photo was taken and the Technopark in March 2007.
